Original Article: Genesis Week Makes History: Omaha, Florence, and Takasaki Are Coming to Upland! — Upland Official Medium
Quick Take
Upland's first-ever simultaneous three-city opening — Omaha, Florence, and Takasaki, all opening Thursday, June 11 at 9 AM PT. It's a real logistical milestone, and the cities open at genuinely player-friendly ratios (Takasaki ~33% FSA, Omaha ~28%). The catch is the headline: this is "the first city release built around bundle-exclusive Farm Properties." Farm Properties are not mintable on release day — the only way to get one is the $99 Deluxe Bundle. That's Farmlands being monetized through land scarcity before the Farming feature it's tied to has shipped.

The Three Cities Compared
| City | % Opened | Properties | % FSA | Avg Price | Min | Neighborhoods | Treasure Tier |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Omaha 🇺🇸 | ~5% | ~9,500 | ~28% | 30,013 UPX | 2,240 UPX | 9 + 1 Farm | Tier 5 |

Each city is tied to a future farming specialization: Omaha (USDA beef cattle + traditional crops), Florence (vineyard crops → future Wine Troves), Takasaki (Wagyu beef + exotic crops). All three specializations are future-tense.
What's Promised vs. What's Delivered
| Promise | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Three cities open simultaneously | ✅ Delivered | First time Upland has done it. Opens June 11, 9 AM PT. |
| New-player-friendly access | ✅ Mostly | Takasaki ~33% FSA, Omaha ~28%. Florence tighter at ~18% and a 55,649 UPX average. |
| Farm Properties in-city | ⏳ Bundle-only | Not mintable on release day. Only via the $99 Deluxe Bundle. Property exists; farming activity does not. |
| Farming specialization (cattle, vineyards, Wagyu) | ❌ Not yet | Farming feature still "under development." City-tied crop specialization is future-tense. |
| Wine Troves (Florence) | ❌ Not yet | New Trove type named for the first time. No mechanic, no date. Troves themselves are in alpha as of June 8. |
| Terminal travel utility | ⏳ Partial | Travel/send mechanics exist; "future movement" and Trade-Routes terminal utility are still pending. |
| Collections | ⏳ Rolling | Revealed weekly Thursdays June 18 → July 9, then incomplete ones locked, repriced, reopened. |
Real Talk
Opening three cities at once is a real achievement, and the access numbers are some of the friendliest we've tracked — Takasaki at ~33% FSA and a 22,801 UPX average is a genuinely good on-ramp for newer players. City openings are one of the things Upland consistently executes well, and this is the most ambitious version yet. Credit where it's due.
Now the structure underneath it. This is the first city launch designed around Farm Properties you cannot mint — the only day-one path to one is the $99 Deluxe Bundle. So the scarce, "appreciating" asset (farmland) is gated behind the most expensive bundle, for a Farming system that is still under development. That's the same move as the May 29 machinery sale, just applied to land instead of equipment: sell the input to a feature before the feature exists.
"Wine Troves" is a new term that appeared here for the first time — a Florence-specific Trove tied to vineyard farming. Worth flagging because Troves only entered alpha on June 8, Farming isn't live, and now there's a city-specific Trove sub-type being marketed before any of the three layers underneath it (Troves, Farming, city crop specialization) has shipped. None of this is buildable today. If you're buying a Florence farm for Wine Troves, you're buying three pending features deep.
What to actually do with this: if you want property in a new city at a friendly entry price, the UPX property bundles (10K–30K) and the FSA pool are the value play, especially in Takasaki. The $99 Deluxe is a bet on Farming shipping — and on these specific Farm Properties mattering once it does. That bet may pay off. Just price it as a bet on an unshipped feature, not as buying working farmland.
