What This Page Is
Upland announced boats and fishing in February 2026 and immediately started selling boats and marinas — before the fishing feature exists. This guide covers everything that's been announced, everything that's been sold, and everything that remains undelivered.
Current Status: April 2026
| Feature | Status |
|---|---|
| Boats purchasable | ✓ Sold since Feb 2026 |
| Marinas purchasable | ✓ Sold since Feb 2026 |
| Boat deployment on map | ✗ Not yet functional |
| Fishing mechanic | ✗ "Scheduled to arrive later in 2026" |
| Fish Troves | ✗ Not yet available |
| Trove exchanges at service structures | ✗ Not yet available |
The February 16 article explicitly states: "At the time of purchase, boats will not yet be functional. These assets represent early positioning within the ecosystem." Upland told you it doesn't work and charged up to $150 anyway.
How Fishing Will Work (Based on Announcements)
Fishing is described as a map-based exploration activity:
- Deploy your boat from a marina onto a lake, bay, or ocean
- Position your boat in different water zones
- Initiate fishing actions from your boat's location
- Catch fish Troves of varying rarity based on location and depth
- Exchange fish at service structures (Fish Markets, Restaurants, Supermarkets, Pet Stores)
- Use specific fish Troves to befriend Uppies and complete their missions
Location matters: Fishing near shore yields different species than deep ocean. Lakes behave differently from oceans. Fish migrate. Larger boats access deeper waters with rarer fish.
Fishing requires a boat. You cannot fish from shoreline or waterfront properties. No boat = no fishing.
Boat Types
| Boat | Price | Range | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Skiff | $50 (bundle with marina) | Lakes and nearshore | Entry-level fishing vessel |
| Speed Boat | $100 (bundle with marina) | Same zones as Skiff | Faster repositioning, same range |
| Pilot House | $150 (bundle with marina) | Extended offshore | Larger vessel, deeper waters |
| Fishing Yacht | Chance only | Deep ocean | Cannot be purchased directly — won through bundles only |
Each boat bundle includes one San Francisco marina property.
The Fishing Yacht is the rarest vessel. It can only be obtained by winning it through the Speed Boat or Pilot House bundles — a loot-box style mechanic for the highest-tier asset. Players who receive a Fishing Yacht also get an additional marina capable of housing the larger vessel.
Marina Locations
Marinas are a dedicated property type. They can be bought, sold, and traded but cannot be developed or built upon. Boats can ONLY be placed at marinas.
| City | Date Available | Price | Qty |
|---|---|---|---|
| San Francisco | Feb 2026 | Included with boat bundles | — |
| Seattle | Feb 2026 | $30 (+ 30K UPX) | 200 |
| Vancouver | Feb 2026 | $30 (+ 30K UPX) | 200 |
| Miami | Mar 2026 | $30 (+ 30K UPX) | 200 |
| Bermuda | Mar 2026 | $30 (+ 30K UPX) | 200 |
Miami and Bermuda bundles have a 5% chance of awarding a Large Yacht Marina.
Strategic note: The marina where you dock determines the waters you can access. Marina location = fishing territory. Choose based on what fish you want to catch — once mechanics go live.
The Trove System
Fish are part of the broader Trove system — account-bound items collected through various game activities. Troves are central to progression:
- Fish Troves from fishing
- Plant Troves from the Life system
- Exploration Troves from Trade Routes (announced, not live)
Fish Troves will exist across rarity tiers (common to rare+). Lower-level fish near shorelines, rarer fish in deep waters. Troves can be exchanged at compatible service structures:
- Fish Markets
- Restaurants
- Supermarkets
- Pet Stores (decorative/coral fish)
Troves are also required for befriending Uppies — completing their missions to add them to your collection.
Cost Summary
| If you bought... | Total |
|---|---|
| Skiff bundle | $50 |
| Speed Boat bundle | $100 |
| Pilot House bundle | $150 |
| Additional marina (Seattle or Vancouver) | $30 |
| Additional marina (Miami or Bermuda) | $30 |
| Full coverage (one boat + 3 extra marinas) | $140–$240 |
None of this is functional as of April 2026.
Should You Buy?
If you want to be positioned for day one: Boats and marinas will likely appreciate on the secondary market as fishing approaches. Early buyers get first pick of marina locations, which determines fishing territory.
If you want to wait and see: Fishing is "later in 2026" with no specific date. Upland has a track record of features taking longer than announced. You can likely buy boats and marinas on the secondary market once fishing goes live.
If budget matters: A Skiff ($50) + your included SF marina gets you basic fishing access when it launches. The Speed Boat adds speed but no range. The Pilot House adds range to deeper waters. Decide based on how seriously you plan to fish.
Boats follow the exact same pattern as vehicles: sell now, deliver later. Buses were sold in September 2025 with boost features that took 7 months to go live. If that timeline holds, fishing could be anywhere from summer to late 2026. Buy only what you're comfortable holding without functionality for months.
