    What This Page Is

In February 2026, Upland overhauled how residential structures work. Players who previously had free access to build certain structures lost that ability — and now have to purchase blueprints to get it back. This guide explains what changed, what it costs, and what it means for your building strategy.

    What Changed

Before February 2026, all players could build standard residential structures on their properties as a default capability. Ranch Houses, Luxury Modern Houses, Apartment Buildings — these were just part of the game.

In Article #120 (February 3, 2026), Upland announced that standard residential structures would move into the Upland Store as purchasable blueprints. Once the transition happened, players who didn't own the blueprint lost the ability to build that structure type.

Structures that moved to the store:

    • Ranch House
    • Luxury Modern House
    • Luxury Ranch House
    • Apartment Building
    • 2nd Small Town House
    • Town House

Structures that remain free by default:

    • Micro House
    • One Small Townhouse

Everything else requires a blueprint purchase.

    Real Talk

This is one of the clearest instances of Upland removing existing player capabilities and monetizing what was previously free. The framing in the article — "simplifying access" and "creating a foundation for future growth" — obscures the fundamental change: you now have to buy what you used to get for free. Upland did offer a limited-time 1 UPX purchase window during Frost Season, but after the season ended, standard pricing applied.

    The Two Blueprint Categories

    Standard Blueprints

Permanent items in the Upland Store. Always available. These are the basic residential structures every player needs access to.

    Limited Blueprints

Visually unique or premium structures available for a limited time or through special events. These come and go.

    The 1 UPX Grace Period

To soften the transition, Upland offered all current players the remaining Frost Season (through mid-March 2026) to purchase each standard residential blueprint for just 1 UPX — essentially free.

After Frost Season ended, blueprints returned to standard UPX pricing.

If you missed the 1 UPX window, you now pay full price for blueprints you previously had access to for free.

    The Early Adopter Badge

Players who collected the full set of standard residential blueprints before Frost Season ended earned the exclusive Early Adopter badge. This was a one-time reward that will not return.

    What's Coming Next

Upland signaled that Factories and Showrooms will also transition into the store as blueprints in the future. The announcement explicitly states: "Factories and Showrooms will remain available by default for now, but will transition into the Upland Store as blueprints in the future after the new store launches."

This means more existing capabilities will eventually be monetized through the blueprint system.

    The Store Redesign

The blueprint system is part of a larger Upland Store redesign announced in the same article. Key changes:

    • Permanent categories instead of just rotating drops
    • UPX-based items permanently available (not just USD)
    • Clickable category navigation for browsing
    • Office Structures added as permanent store items (Small Office 30K UPX, Large Office 50K UPX, Office Complex $10, Office Tower $15)

The redesigned store was described as "launching in the coming months" as of February 2026.

    Strategy Recommendations

If you missed the 1 UPX window: Check the store for current blueprint pricing. Prioritize the structures you build most frequently.

If you're new: You start with Micro House and One Small Townhouse. Everything else requires a blueprint purchase. Budget for this as part of your startup costs.

If you build for others through Construction Hub: You need the blueprint to fulfill contracts for that structure type. Missing blueprints mean missed contract opportunities.

Watch for Factories and Showrooms: When these transition to blueprints, there may be another limited-time discount window. Don't miss it twice.
