This is another boat sale for a feature that does not work yet. On February 16, 2026, Upland sold the first wave of boats with the explicit disclosure "at the time of purchase, boats will not yet be functional." It is now April 9, 2026 — 52 days later — and Upland is selling the next wave with the same underlying reality: "both fishing and troves launching later in 2026." The Fishing Yacht's entire value proposition is tied to accessing "the most unique and hard-to-find fish troves," a system Upland confirms in the same article has not launched. Buyers of the $150 Pilot House bundle are paying for an undisclosed probability of unlocking a boat whose unique advantage is tied to a mechanic that does not exist yet. The new "hold the boat in your wallet until you get a marina" feature is framed as flexibility, and for players who were going to buy a boat anyway that is real flexibility. But the other way to read it: Upland is acknowledging that prospective boat buyers might not have marinas, and building a feature that decouples the two. That removes a natural friction point ("I don't have a marina so I can't use a boat") from the purchase funnel. "First time we have opened up a vehicle sale this way" is a meaningful product change worth noting — it expands the addressable buyer pool beyond existing marina owners.
