How Merging Works
Combine two Uppies of the same level to create one of the next level. Both originals are permanently destroyed — gone forever. Levels 1–4 are multi-mint (multiple copies of the same design), while Level 5+ are 1-of-1 unique designs. Mixing generations (e.g. UOrigin + UFRST26) produces a random generation result — not guaranteed to match your input.
| Input | Output |
|---|---|
| 2× Level 1 | 1× Level 2 |
| 2× Level 2 | 1× Level 3 |
| 2× Level 5 | 1× Level 6 |
| 2× Level 10 | 1× IPU (Iconic Parody Uppie) |
To reach Level 10 from Level 1s, you need 512 Level 1 Uppies merged progressively. To get one IPU, you need 1,024 Level 1s worth of merging. The cost is astronomical.
What It Costs
Merge costs use Upland’s Dynamic Pricing system — prices adjust in real time based on both how many players are merging AND the supply of Uppies available at each level. There are no published fixed rates. Sparklet spent on merging is permanently burned — gone forever, not staked or recoverable.
K Twice’s experience: A single merge cost 1,300 Sparklet during a peak demand period. Always check the in-game merge screen before merging — the price you see can change within minutes. If you’re planning to merge, stockpile Sparklet BEFORE demand spikes.
The Cross-Generation Problem
This is the biggest risk nobody talks about enough.
When you merge two UOrigin Uppies, you can receive a UFRST26 Uppie. That’s a downgrade — you lose two rare UOrigins and get one common UFRST.
I experienced this five times. Level 1 UOrigins → UFRSTs. Level 2 UOrigins → UFRSTs. Level 5 UOrigins → Level 6 UFRST. Five times I spent Sparklet, sacrificed UOrigins, and got a generation downgrade.
There is no way to guarantee your merge output generation. If you merge two UOrigins, you might get a UOrigin back — or you might get a UFRST. The result appears random. This means every UOrigin merge is a gamble with your rarest assets. Upland has not publicly addressed whether this is intended behavior or a bug.
Should You Merge?
Merge if: You have excess lower-level Uppies you’re willing to lose, you’ve stockpiled cheap Sparklet, and you’re targeting higher-level utility or the IPU achievement. Uppie employment is coming — Uppies above a certain level will be placeable in Service Structures to boost Service Score, giving higher-level Uppies direct gameplay utility beyond collectibility.
Don’t merge if: You’re holding UOrigins you value for their scarcity. The risk of downgrading to UFRSTs may not be worth the level increase. Unmerged UOrigins will never be produced again — their scarcity value may exceed any higher-level utility.
Wait if: You want Upland to clarify whether cross-generation merging is intentional. If they fix it, your UOrigins are safe. If they don’t, at least you made an informed choice.
